Our school features high-end modern facilities, including:

  • Over 5,000 square feet of training space
  • Two dedicated training areas
  • Spring floor for throwing arts

Owner: Master Ken Blumreich

6th Dan Kyuki-Do, 2nd Dan Hapkido, 2nd Dan Yoshukai Karate, & 1st Dan Judo

Our History:

Splits and divisions are commonplace in the world of martial arts. AKF Athens is therefore a bit of an anomaly: the union of two preexisting martial arts schools.

Master Ken Blumreich opened the original AKF Athens Martial Arts in 2001. The fledgling school found kinship and camraderie with Itto Martial Arts, a multi-art academy that had been operated since 1993 by (now-Grandmaster) Tommy Lunsford. Even before the founding of Itto, Mr. Lunsford had been a prominent figure in the Athens martial arts community, having taught classes at the YMCA for almost two decades.

In 2007, anticipating Mr. Lunsford’s retirement, the two schools merged under the AKF bannerhead, with Master Blumreich at the helm. The legacy of Itto Martial Arts is reflected in the lineage of AKF Athens’s Judo, Aikido, and Hapkido programs.

The American Kyuki-Do Federation (AKF) is also tightly linked with the arts of Judo and Hapkido through its own history. Therefore, our school today sits at the intersection of these overlapping backgrounds, creating a rich and vibrant martial arts culture & community. We welcome you to be a part of it!
