Aikido
at AKF Athens Martial Arts
- About Aikido: Aikido is a traditional Japanese martial art that teaches practitioners how to redirect, rather than oppose, the force of an attacker. Dependent on circular movement, it is very fluid and graceful with an emphasis on efficient body movement and timing. Strength and size are of little importance in the practice of Aikido, which makes it an excellent art for students of all body types. AKF Athens’s Aikido program is based off the Yoseikan Aikido lineage, which is high contact, grounded in physical principles, and strongly reflects its ancestor Samurai arts.
- Types of skill focus: Throwing & joint locks
- This might be the art for you if: you don’t want to fight strength-on-strength, you enjoy a high level of technical challenge in your training, or you prefer a smaller class size & personalized attention.
- We offer the Athens area’s longest-running dedicated Aikido program.
- Number of classes offered per week: 3 classes
